Arnette D. “Love” McSwain

 Arnette D. “Love” McSwain was born and reared in Portsmouth, VA. In 1990, Arnette started a career in the United States Army, reaching the rank of E6. She became a Deputy Sheriff at the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office in Savannah, GA in 1999; Arnette was a POST Certified Peace Officer in the state of GA.  Approximately, six years later she returned to the city she loves, Portsmouth, and began her career at the Chesapeake City Sheriff’s Office in 2006 until her retirement in 2015.  Arnette is a licensed real estate agent, a notary public, and she owns three small businesses. Today, Arnette is the host of a radio show, a podcast, and a published author. History was made on May 9, 2022, when Arnette was elected to be the First Female Commander (in over 75 years) of the William H. Harrison, American Legion Post #190.

Arnette earned a Master of Arts in Religion and a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership, both from Liberty University.  Her undergraduate degrees are a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Mountain State University and an Associate of Science in Management from Hawaii Pacific University.

Arnette uses her vast platform to advocate for the betterment of her community and the citizens within.

3. Advocate for a more consistent, coherent, focused literacy program to help increase reading proficiency at all levels.

4. I will be a present link between the community and the Portsmouth Public School Division.
